CPSC, Hamilton Beach Announce Recall Of Juice Extractors

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Hamilton Beach is voluntarily recalling about 2.4 million juice extractors. The juice extractors' strainer basket and lid can break apart and project metal and plastic into the air, potentially injuring nearby consumers.

Hamilton Beach has received 4 reports that consumers were cut and required stitches from broken strainer baskets.

Only juice extractors with the following model numbers are being recalled:67150, 67180, 67180W, 395WS, 67199, 3920JS.

The model number appears underneath each unit, and the name Hamilton Beach appears on the side. The juice extractors are white plastic and are approximately 12 inches in height. The model 3920JS juice extractors have two speeds. the other models have a single speed.

Stores nationwide sold the recalled model 67150, 67180 and 67180W juice extractor from 1996 to 2001. The recalled model 395WS, 67199, and 3920JS juice extractors were sold from 1991 to 1995. The juice extractors sold for approximately $29.99 to $39.99.

Consumers should stop using these juice extractors immediately, and call Hamilton Beach at 1-800-429-6363, from 8a.m. to 3p.m., Monday through Friday EST., for instructions on how to participate in the recall. For newer models, consumers will receive a free replacement strainer basket. For older models, because replacement parts are not available, consumers will receive their choice of a new juice extractor or a $10.00 refund.

No. Consumers who have one of the affected juice extractors should unplug the juice extractor and should immediately stop using the juice extractor.

The recall program in Canada is slightly different from the U.S. The only models being recalled in Canada are models 67150, 67180, and C67207 (similar to U.S. model 3920JS pictured above). Canadian consumers should call toll-free 1-888-772-2433, from 9a.m. to 7p.m., Monday through Friday EST., for instructions on how to participate in the recall.
